The campus chapter of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) will begin selling 8-ounce Jamba Juice smoothies every Wednesday for $2. They will only be sold during the 10-minute break between third and fourth period.
The three available flavors are Razmatazz, Strawberries Wild and Mango Madness. Only fruit-based smoothies are allowed for the sale, according to the Jamba Juice provider.
The idea for the weekly sale stemmed from the group’s motivation to serve the student body, CSF president Chelsea Joy said.
?CSF is a service club,? Joy said. ?Service is the goal for the club so we like to do things like this for the students. [Jamba] was such a success during Valentine’s Day and we thought it would be cool to make it a permanent thing.?
Many seniors attend class after lunch with smoothies in their hands ? a benefit of their off-campus privileges. Now underclassmen have the opportunity to treat themselves with the drinks.
?I will definitely buy Jamba every Wednesday because it’s my favorite [drink],? Rishele Ross, ’12, said. ?Students like it because it’s healthy and it tastes good. Although, I think Starbucks would be even more popular because adults would be more inclined to buy it as well. I’m so excited to be able to have it at school every week.?
Jamba Juice supplied the original premise of the sale. The company provides the service to many different organizations throughout Fresno and Clovis.
?I got a phone call from the manager here in Fresno one day,? Molly Sargent, CSF adviser, said. ?He told me that they bring Jamba Juice to different organizations in order to promote the company.
“Then, the organization gets 20% of the profit. So if we made $200 [at one sale] we would get $20 that would go toward our Senior Scholarship Fund. This fund is a reward for high academics that provides money or support for CSF life members.?
With many store locations scattered across the community, the drink is easy to obtain. However, the option to buy one between classes and before lunch may entice students to support CSF for their fruity treats.
?I don’t think I’ll buy Jamba every week,? Frankie DeFrancesco, ’10, said. ?I can go to Jamba anytime after school or my friends can bring me back one during lunch. I will buy it sometimes though because it’s hard to resist when it’s right here at school.?
