Student leadership seeks to revitalize spirit

With two new advisers and a group of 31 students, the leadership class hopes to reignite spirit on campus.

Filling the roles of previous advisers, teacher Robert Foshee and cheer coach Robin Whitford said they are enthused to teach high school leadership for the first time.

“I am excited to see the leadership class develop into Christ-like leaders who will unify the school,” Foshee said. “Just seeing what God is going to do with us is exciting. They are all enthusiastic about serving the school and seeing school involvement.”

Whitford, a ’98 alumna, said she looks forward to helping her class lead the school.

“I love working with the students because they have a passion for leading their peers,” Whitford said. “I was in leadership class when I went to school here and I want to be a resource for the kids.”

According to Foshee, the leadership strives to rekindle Eagle pride throughout the campus.

“Our team works to set an encouraging example that amplifies spirit,” Foshee said. “We hope our cheerful spirits spread across the campus.”

In order to complete the goals leadership has planned, many members view organization as vital.

“We are currently learning how to run formal cabinet meetings,” Foshee said. “The team is also grouped into rally, social, chapel and service committees according to each person’s skills. With everyone working on a specific area, we can get much done.”

Along with Foshee, Whitford is looking forward to see the class contribute to the well-being of the campus.

“The students are very willing to help out their peers,” Whitford said. “They want Fresno Christian to succeed.”

The student body received a glimpse of the leadership class’ style while attending the first rally of the year, Sept. 11.

“I thought the football team introduction was really cool, and the band was beastly,” Jordan Boudreau, ’13, said. “There could have been more student interaction, but overall it was a good first rally.”

This year’s leadership team is equipped with a number of officers: President Tatiana Fontes, ’10; vice president Elizabeth Grossman, ’10; secretary Amanda Merzon, ’12; treasurer Dana King, ’12; and service commisioner Bree Ainley, ’11.

“I want to make my school comfortable for people to express their excitement and faith,” Fontes said. “Our class is about serving the student body and honoring God in everything we do.”

The next leadership event will be homecoming, Oct. 16. Look for upcoming information on The Feather or e-mail Foshee.

I don’t remember whose idea this was, but it was so brilliant! I wish the fourth computer had been working so that we could make it four pictures instead of just three. But it still looks hilarious!

Also, do I spy a word from our English class in the title, Madison? 😉
