Missions Emphasis Week publicizes opportunities

In order to support the future of Christian youth on campus, chapel coordinator Rob Foshee has instituted a Missions Emphasis Week, March 22-26. Monday and Tuesday will feature normal Tuesday chapel schedule, and Thursday a normal Thursday chapel schedule.

Foshee says the purpose of the event is to encourage students in new areas.

“Sometimes people want to get involved in missions, but they don’t know where, so this gives students a chance to get involved,” Foshee said.

Monday’s chapel will host the band from We Are One, a recurring community event that promotes church unity and worship through service. The band consists of Northpark Community Church young adults pastor Ryan Townsend, FC senior Tyler Duerr, ’09 alumnus Andrew Rurik and friend Josh Ansiel.

“I feel that being able to play at FC chapel is an amazing opportunity,” Ansiel said. “Although we do have some promotion, having alumni as band members is a great opportunity to actually display what we’re doing with We Are One.”

We Are One will culminate with a full-scale event April 16 at Eaton Plaza in downtown Fresno. The event will support the Community Food Bank, and is endorsed by Mayor Ashley Swearengin.

On Tuesday, the regular worship team will play, and soccer coach Matt Markarian will speak about service opportunities through Breakaway, a Peoples Church mission over spring break.

On Thursday, Foshee will share opportunities for summer missions experiences.

“I think sometimes people think they have to wait until they’re a certain age to do missions, but there’s opportunities right there where we are,” Foshee said.
