Fresno Area College Night to host over 100 institutions

The 27th annual Fresno Area College Night will host more than 100 colleges to provide information for prospective students, Sept. 8.

The event, sponsored by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, will run from 6-9 p.m. at the Convention Center’s New Exhibit Hall in downtown Fresno. Admission is free.

Representatives from institutions across the country will man tables and hand out brochures. Academic adviser Molly Sargent recommends that students attend the event to aid their college search.

“I have been there myself, and it really was somewhat overwhelming the number of colleges that they fit into the auditorium,” Sargent said. “There are Christian colleges, public schools, private schools; every college you can imagine comes to this college fair. If a student would really like to get some initial information, this is a great place to start.”

In addition to students, Sargent suggests that parents attend to learn more about financial aid and college policies.

“I would encourage parents to go, too,” Sargent said. “They need to see how much college costs and what options and opportunities colleges now offer. They also need to see how times have changed; college is very different now than it was during our parents’ days.”
