For the second year, the school’s video productions class participated in the Get Reel Student Film Festival, which is sponsored by the Fresno County Public Library and the Educational Employees Credit Union.

After submitting films and commercials, students in the class attended a showing of the entries at the Tower Theatre on Nov. 4 and the awards ceremony on Nov. 14.

Although senior Zach Camden and sophomores Jordan Boudreau and Juan Ruelas all entered the contest, only Boudreau’s “Jack Danger” and Ruelas’s “Tattoo Parlor” made it to the finals.

However, no FC student received an award at the ceremony. (For a full list of the winners, check out 2010 Winners.)

Despite the losses, video productions adviser Scott Callisch appreciates the greater exposure to his students’ films.

“I like my students best,” Callisch said. “In my opinion, every one of our films should have won. But the students have fun, and now hundreds more people have seen their films.”

In the 2009 festival, FC students won awards for Best Commercial, Best Stunt Film and Best Show.

“Each year judges are different,” Callisch said. “It all depends on what the judges like. Last year we won them over; this year they didn’t choose us.”

This festival is held each year for aspiring filmmakers between the ages of 13-22. Videos are judged according to category: animation, documentary, commercial/PSA, EECU commercial, music video and feature short.

The mission of the festival is “to enrich Fresno’s cultural community by encouraging, promoting and recognizing the creativity of young local filmmakers,” according to its website.
