Motor Trend presents auto show in Fresno

Motor Trend featured many domestic and luxury vehicles, from European imports to American-made cars, at the Fresno Convention Center, Nov. 19-21.

The Central California Auto Show displayed a wide selection of new cars, trucks, crossovers and hybrids. The show also featured luxury rides and the latest economical fuel vehicles.

In order to house all the vehicles, the show had to make use of three expo halls.

Local car dealerships like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Toyota, Chevrolet and many others put their cars on display for the public to inspect engines, explore new automotive technologies and sit behind the wheel.

Motor Trend gave away free subscription to their magazine to everyone who attended the event. In addition, Motor Trend sponsored the Corvette Dream Giveaway for those who are looking to add two cars to their garage to help raise money for the Kids Wish Network.

While at the show, senior Dean Potigian admired the $1.5 million Enzo Ferrari on display. This car is one of only 400 such models produced, according to Ferrari’s website.

“The red Enzo Ferrari I saw was really tight,” Potigian said. “One day, when I get older, I want to be able to buy one of these. This was a cool car show.”

The show also featured the 2011 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, which is manufactured by General Motors. The SUV’s price tag starts at more than $85,000, as the vehicle is one of a few luxury SUV hybrids.

In addition, representatives from domestic car manufacturers like Chevrolet and Ford allowed the public to test drive certain vehicles in order to get a feel for the new technology and ride.

While at the show, sophomore Nicole Hensley examined her dream car, the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, which she plans to purchase in the near future.

“The main reason I went [to the auto show] was because I wanted to look at the car I am going to buy in two months,” Hensley said. “The car show was good, but I don’t think I will attend next year’s; there is no point, since I will have already bought my own — unless my dad drags me to go with him.”

The Central California Auto Show will return in fall 2011. Motor Trend will next host a show in San Jose, Jan. 6-9.
