Baja Fresh assists FC fundraiser

Instead of throwing a simple run-of-the-mill fundraiser, Baja Fresh has agreed to help out FC by hosting one themselves. From 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., 15 percent of the proceeds that Baja Fresh collects from customers with flyers will be donated to the school, Aug. 25.

The fundraiser will take place at the Baja Fresh located at 7675 N. Blackstone Ave. Flyers can be printed or found in the FC offices.

The money acquired by this fundraiser will go into the school’s general fund, which helps pay for teacher’s salaries, books, school supplies and other operating expenses.

Darby Whipple, a member of the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF), organized the fundraiser. Recognizing the school’s “We Are One” theme, she thought this would be a great way to unite the elementary, junior high and high school.

“I thought it would be a great idea to include the whole school so we could bridge the gap between the grade differences,” Whipple said. “Unity is a very important thing in a school our size.”

Last year, the first fundraiser was held at Sweet Tomatoes, raising around $350 for FC. Whipple aims to raise at least $200 this year, but hopes to see the fundraiser exceed her expectations.

“My goals for this fundraiser are to make a difference throughout the school. I want to make kids excited to raise money for FC,” she commented. “The biggest reward for me will be to see all the FC families coming together as one and having a blast.”

Whipple has a personal connection with FC and was happy to help the school out in any way she could.

“My daughter is in sixth grade, but will soon be in junior high then high school,” Whipple commented. “So, I thought, ‘why not include the whole school if one day I’ll be a part of that group?'”

Whipple hopes to organize fundraisers like this one every month throughout the school year at a various locations. If there is enough interest, the fundraisers will continue in the years to come.

“I hope to throw as many fun and exciting fundraisers as I can in the progressing years,” Whipple said. “Acquiring a unity throughout the whole student body through these fundraisers would be a great accomplishment for me, as well as raising a substantial amount of money for FC.”
