EAGLES ROLL OVER MINARETS, 61-38–Sept. 30
Down 6-0 early in the first quarter, the Eagles were carried by senior Austin Rurik and overwhelmed Minarets (O’Neals, CA), 61-38, Sept. 30. Rurik rushed 25 times for 304 yards, scoring 4 rushing TDs for the visitors from Fresno.
Rurik scored his first TD on an 11-yard run to begin a 40-point surge that put the Eagles in front to stay. Quarterback Tyler Krigbaum scored on a 2-yard run to close out the first quarter scoring.
Late in the first quarter, defensive lineman, Daniel Andrew, ’12, recovered a fumble which lead to another TD by Rurik.
“I was surprised I had the ball,” Andrew said. “At first I wasn’t sure if it was a fumble or and incomplete pass, but I went with it anyway. I fumbled it around though and had to look down to make sure I still had it and I was more amazed that I even had it.”
The second quarter was all FC. Krigbaum hit Trevor York for a 39-yard pass and run TD. Later Rurik scored on a 3-yard run and the Eagles led, 25-6, at the half.
The third opened with Sean Carter on a quick slant for 15 yards, catching 2 passes for 33 yards, and Rurik closing with another TD. But the Mustangs answered with a drive of their own when Joey Ramirez scored his second TD of the game on a 1-yard run. Rurik settled the Eagles down as he ran for his 4th TD late in the third, breaking free for a 15-yard score.
Brandon McCormick, ’13, headed the Eagles in receiving with 5 catches for 152 yards from Krigbaum who had 10 completions for 225 yards.
“The thing with me and B Mac [McCormick] is that we both know the game,” Krigbaum said. “So we know when things are open and we know how to help each other out. I just read the defense and he was always there and he made the catch every time I threw it.”
Minarets outscored the Eagles in the 4th, 24-14. FC’s two scores came when Brandon McCormick, ’13, caught a 20-yard pass from Krigbaum and Adam Wood ran for a 4-yard TD late.
Wood finished the game with 5 carries for 24 yards rushing. McCormick caught 5 passes for 152 yards. York finished the game with 1 catch for 40 yards. Krigbaum went 10-16-0 and 225 yards passing.
Head coach Dan Stockton says that in the upcoming games, the key to their success will have to become whether or not they can spread out the opposing team’s defense.
“What’ll be the big difference is if we can throw the ball, people can’t come up and put nine in the box on us,” Stockton said. “Defense is always the key to everything, but if we can throw the ball and get some points on the board and stop them, we have a good chance.”
FC evened their record at 2-2 and will next face Tranquillity at home, Oct. 7.

Hey! I know that tractor! I saw it while doing my Bible project 8th period and realized my grandparents farm has that same model.
