As they wade through the properties and rules of the periodic table of elements, FC chemistry classes put their knowledge to the test. Science teacher Dan Harris led the two classes in an experiment of sodium and lithium in water, Sept. 28.
Dressed in lab coats and goggles, the groups were treated to a sight of sparks, fire and smoke as Harris placed bits of the metals into water.
Allowing his classes to gain firsthand accounts of the experiment, Harris provided them with smaller chunks of the metals, which fizzed as the students placed them into the water.
As half of each class performed the experiment, Harris provided various metals, such as aluminum, copper and iron for the students to examine.
