Dear Editor,
I really enjoyed the field trip to Bakersfield’s convention center to hear a symphony play music from the Romantic Era on Nov. 6. I learned many interesting facts about romantic music versus classical music.
For example, I learned that music from the Romantic Era emphasizes individualism and subjectivity to personal feelings, whereas classical music emphasizes balance and is more orderly. Also, romantic music uses colorful and irregular rhythm while classical music is predictable and consistent.
From listening to the symphony and hearing these interesting facts about music, I have learned to appreciate music on a deeper level. I understand it is possible to become absorbed into its mood and meaning.
Although this fieldtrip was meant for Acadec students, I am grateful it was opened up for all high school students and that I decided to tag along.
