In light of the Christmas season, the FC chapter of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) has partnered with Angel Tree to host a Christmas party for children of incarcerated parents, Dec. 20.
Angel Tree is an organization that asks volunteers to buy presents for children who have a parent living in prison.
Groups will contact families to ask what the children want and will give them a small message from their incarcerated parent. CSF President Brady Lee, ’12, explains why he is looking forward to the giving the children presents.
“I am excited because I was able to call all of the families, talking to them personally,” Lee said. “The day of the party I will be sharing the gospel and performing a magic show for the children. I think it will be a great experience.”
CSF students have organized themselves into different committees in order to plan for the Christmas party. The committees include: outrageous decorations, Christmas tree decorations, refreshments, games, goodie bags and caroling.
Celeste Camacho, ’12, is the caroling committee leader, and looks forward to entertaining the children.
“We are going to sing songs like ’12 Days of Christmas’ and ‘Jingle Bells,'” Camacho said. “Also, [we will be] putting the words up for the the kids to sing to. The point is so that we can get the kids involved with the music we will sing.”
According to Katie King, ’14, the decorations committee will have a meeting outside of class to get prepared for the event.
“Our group is going to meet at Walmart this week to buy some decorations, said King. “We are getting the decorations ahead of time so we can be prepared.”
During the party, CSF intends to spread Christmas cheer by allowing their faiths to lead the way.
“I really want to show God’s love to the families,” Lee said. “Hopefully they will see Jesus’ light shining through us as we interact with them throughout the party,” Lee said.
