EAGLES OPEN SEASON AGAINST KERMAN–March 1
Following the pattern of last year, the Eagles began the golf season by playing Kerman High School in a non-league match at Javier’s Fresno West Golf Course, March 1. Although seniors Jeff Roseth and Tyler Zaentz had low scores of 39 and 40, respectively, the Eagles lost 251-246.

Despite the loss, freshman Colby Lee enjoyed the experience and is looking forward to the upcoming Ironman Tournament at Eagle Springs Country Club, March 5.

“I liked the match yesterday, I had a good time getting to know the feel of competitive golf” Lee said. “I think I played pretty well, this being the first match of the season, but I know that I definitely could have played better. I can’t wait to start all over again on monday at the Ironman tournament, and altogether I feel like it’s going to be a great season.”

Although disappointed with the loss, Coach Jeff Hopper felt that overall the team played pretty good for the first match.

“Pretty much everybody came away looking for places where they could have saved shots?a typical day, really” Hopper said. “But since it was the first match of the year, this also allows the guys to see where they want to spend their upcoming practice time. Personally, I was pleased to see some good putting out there, as we have spent a lot of time working on improving that part of our game.”

The coach was mostly pleased with the performance of the new players, realizing that despite the trouble with the many areas they need to get better in, they held up well.

“We had four guys playing in their very first match today, the most we have had at one time since we restarted the program in 2007. That?s a lot of inexperience that can only get better, so we?ll be looking to see how these guys?Christopher Grossman, Lee, Jason Kim, and McKay Mohun?layer in new skills in the weeks to come.”

The Eagles will next participate in the Ironman Tournament at Eagle Springs Country Club, March 5.
