As our population continues to grow, I believe it is more important than ever to recycle. Zachary Diaz la Cuesta?s article on E-Waste recycling shows us one more aspect of how to deal with devices once they become obsolete. We all need to be more conscious and deliberate about ensuring that reusable resources do not become waste ending up in our landfills.

Plastic bottle and aluminum cans for example, are reusable resources for many different items we all use on a daily basis. Aluminum cans when recycled can be used for the making of additional soda cans, license plates, and aluminum foil in addition to many other items.

Plastic bottles when recycled can be reengineered and used in the automotive industry as underbody splash shields, non-food bottles, containers, carpet, fiberfill, and even a new clothing fiber called Fortel EcoSpun. It is estimated that for every pound of Fortel EcoSpun fiber that ten plastic bottles are kept out of land fills.

Spending a lot of time at Sierra Racquet Club, I witnessed the large amount of water bottles going into the trash everyday. After some thought, I talked with the owner of Sierra Racquet and asked, ?if I purchased some nice looking recycle containers could I put them at Sierra?? He agreed to give me the opportunity to see how the members would like them. I am forever grateful to him. Little did I know then, that this was the path for me starting my own business ?RecycleKing? at fourteen.

Originally, I purchased five bins for Sierra. Over the last two years, I have purchased several more bins. I currently own 32 recycling units. I have my bins placed in 14 local businesses. The bins have been present at Fresno Christian football games, tennis matches, and several private party events. In June, I have been booked to handle the recycling for an event where over 2,000 people are expected to attend.

I worked with this organization last year and I was very happy when they recently called me again. As ?RecycleKing? has continued to expand so has my mind. In 2011, I became the first person in our state to make contact with a company that allows me to recycle the tennis ball containers from Sierra Racquet along with the plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and the glass wine & beer bottles from their cafe.

We all must begin to think outside the box, bottle, and aluminum can and make the effort to take the few extra steps and recycle. God created the earth, it is our job to care for and protect it.
