Morning returned quickly on March 15 for The Feather staff. A brief breakfast was eaten at nearby locations before heading onto the subway towards Columbia University. The day was filled with more classes related towards helpful advice for publications.
A few sessions students attended included tips on photography, media coverage and online news. Co-Editors-in-Chief Mary Hierholzer, ’12, and Nick Avery, ’12, lectured on maintaining an online newspaper. Most of the journalism staff appeared for this presentation along with multiple other attendees from other schools.
As the temperature dropped significantly on this day, the scheduled Central Park visit was postponed until either Friday or Saturday. Instead, the staff and a few chaperones headed downtown to SoHo for dinner and shopping. As a group, they ate at Lombardi’s Pizza, which is touted as America’s first pizzeria.
Shopping down in Soho ranged from high-end places such as Prada and Bloomingdales to stores like H&Mand Forever 21.
Before heading back to the hotel for a somewhat earlier night in, the group stopped at a store specializing in memorabilia for all things Broadway, from new shows to long-lasting ones. To end the night on a good note, most students left with Adviser Greg Stobbe to get cupcakes at Crumbs Bake Shop.
The Feather staff will attend their last day of classes tomorrow, in addition to the ceremony for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s (CSPA) Crown Awards.

I represented Daniel at the awards presentation at the Fresno Art Museum as Daniel was working with the very tractor he drew that day! His comments on his choice of subject matter were one of only three that Mr. Bullwinkle read that day!

Wow Daniel, congratulations! I’d love to see your card up close. Maybe you should consider selling some of your original work at the FCS Auction.
Great job!

Good job, Daniel. It’s amazing to see how you have grown on your skills in art. You did very well and I’m proud of my little brother for winning the competition as one of the thousands picked out for the postcard.
