Not since the class of 2002 has there been such dominance. And this year, the seniors made sure the class of 2012 would be remembered as they shut out an upstart sophomore class, 14-0.
As the whistle blew the final time on this early spring day, the seniors celebrated a three-peat victory in the annual Powder Puff football game, March 23.
Playing evening and night spring Powder Puff has become a new tradition for the lady footballers who are not accustomed to playing their sport under the lights in front of the still newly constructed grandstands (2011).
While the girls were duking it out on the North Field, the boys set up for cheers on the sidelines and often were left wondering now their female counterparts do those students? Some relented and said, “cheerleading indeed is a sport.”
While sophomores earned second place in 2012, the freshmen took on the juniors and defeated the upperclassmen, 20-6, for third place. Some wondered aloud whether the rookies might give the sophomores a run for their money in next year’s title game, much to the chagrin of the juniors.
While the stands held the spectators, the evening’s commentary came from senior Tyler Krigbaum whose antics on the sidelines with coaches, fans, teachers and players added to the festivities.
According to student leadership adviser Robert Foshee, the annual Powder Puff game was moved to the spring two years ago to allow for more participation from girls’ athletic teams who often played into the early winter in playoffs. Additionally, the late fall activity schedule is often full of opportunities and the early spring needed an all-school reason to gather.
