BOYS’ TENNIS 2012

EAGLES FLY PAST RIVERDALE–April 10
After a week of Easter vacation FC hosted the Riverdale Cowboys, April 10. The Eagles executed soundly and defeated their opponents, 8-1.

Besides losing a singles match, FC went on to win all their matches. Coach Rob Foshee is happy how his team played as a whole. He says they have a good chance of winning league if they continue to execute well.

“Lots of guys stepped up and won matches we had to win,” Foshee said. “It gets us ready for some tough matches coming down the road. Everyone in league has a similar record. League is wide open. I think if we play how were supposed to play we have a good shot at winning.”

Between matches, players from both teams were seen talking and getting to know each other more. After all the matches were over, Riverdale met with FC to pray. Foshee says he really enjoys the relational aspect of coaching tennis.

“Every time we play these matches they are hard fought matches but when the match is over everyone is getting to know each other,” Foshee said. “God could open opportunities to minister through players, coaches and even parents. Over the last three years I have really enjoyed having those opportunities within the game but also outside the game to meet and talk with people.”

While the Eagles had little trouble against the Cowboys, sophomore Adam Loughney had tough match. The second year varsity player found himself trailing 2-6 in his singles match. Rather than giving up, Loughney fought from behind and ended up winning 8-6. He shares his mindset when he was behind.

“I though to myself, ‘is there something that I need to do to get back,'” Loughney said. “I began to take it point by point, not thinking about the full game.”

Loughney says he felt like coming back would be like a miracle. When he ended up winning he was amazed and thankful.

“I felt really happy,” Loughney said. “Halfway through my match I didn?t think I was going to comeback. I said a minnie prayer saying, ‘God, can you help me with the struggle that I’m having right now.’ When I succeeded I was like, ‘Wow, God answers prayer.'”

The Eagles will next host the Firebaugh Eagles, April 12.
