Travel experiences broaden cultural awareness

Dear Editor,

After reading the article “Swiss educational trip planned” in The Feather, I believe that everyone should have an opportunity to visit other countries. There are many enlightening things one can only experience by getting out of their own country.

For instance, France has a very different culture. It has different styles of clothes and different kinds of food and
Entertainment. The French celebrate holidays very differently than the U.S.

New year’s is far more important than Christmas in France. It is the biggest night of the year. Parisians show up for the count down at the Eiffel Tower.

It is also cool to hear a different language. It gives you a desire to want to learn more about a foreign language. And when you visit the sites in a foreign country, you learn history the fun way. You may choose to see where history was made and walk where great people walked, like Napoleon or King Louis XIV.

Experiencing life outside of your home is one of the best ways to broaden your awareness of the world. And you realize how blessed you truly are to have all of the things that you have.

I encourage everyone who has an opportunity to explore another country to go for it. Mr. (Greg) Stobbe (English/journalism teacher) travels to Europe almost every year, and I know that the students who go have a blast!

Or if you are particularly interested in France, you could join me. My parents are leading a group of students on a 17-day trip throughout France next summer. Bon Voyage!
