BOYS’ TENNIS 2012

FC LOSES A SECOND TIME TO DOS PALOS–May 1
After coming out victorious over the Riverdale Cowboys, the Eagles were ready to take on the Dos Palos Mustangs, May 1. Having lost just one game in league, the Broncos were the team to beat. Though FC played hard, Dos Palos proved to be the better team. The Mustangs executed well and defeated the Eagles 6-3.

Looking back on the match, coach Rob Foshee feels like his team never gave up. Though he Mustangs outplayed them, Foshee says he is proud of his boys.

“They were the better team today,” Foshee said. “We did everything we could do. We made some mistakes but we were in every match. I was proud of the guys because they all played well and they all fought hard.”

Junior Brandon Porter played a solid No.2 singles match. Porter, who was down 0-2 ended up winning 8-4. Porter says he played with confidence after a pep-talk with coach Foshee.

“For the first couple games I felt like I was playing kind of sloppy and making unforced errors,” Porter said. “I talked with coach and he told me to calm down. After that I started playing more consistently and taking more chances. That really paid off. Playing confidently was really a big thing.”

This was not the only time Porter has made a comeback during the season. He shares his simple but powerful strategy for coming back from behind.

“I try not to think of the match score,” Porter said.”I try to take it game by game.”

FC will play their last league match of the season against the Firebaugh Eagles, May 3. This will be the Eagles Senior Night where they will honor seniors Jon Passmore, Jacob Williams and Brady Lee.
