Eagles suffer loss, learning experience, Oct. 7
For their first league game, the FC Eagles traveled to Caruthers High School to face the Blue Raiders, Oct. 7.
For the past three games, the team has been without one of their starters. However, the Eagles were able to have all the starters for the game on Tues., Oct. 7.
Sophomore Hannah Nale, was excited to finally have the full team there for the first league game.
“I was very happy that the team was finally back together,” Nale said. “Having all our starters back because it definitely boosts our spirits. When we are all together, we do a really good job of pumping each other when we need it.”
The Eagles started off a little shaky in the first match as Caruthers defeated them, 25-9.
Senior Ivette Ibarra, feels like this game was a good wakeup call for the team.
“Lately we haven’t been playing teams that are at the same level as we are,” Ibarra said. “Now we are entering league and we are playing teams that are either at our level our higher. We need to start playing with passion and show that we deserve to make it to valleys.”
In the second match, the Eagles put up a fight and came out on top, 25-20.
As the third match approached, the Eagles did their best to keep fighting, but it wasn?t enough as they lost, 25-20.
The Eagles entered the third match with injuries and exhaustion, but weren?t going down without a battle. However, Caruthers still managed to come out victorious, 25-20.
Although Coach Jonathan Penberthy, was disappointed with the loss, he saw it as a lesson that they needed to learn.
“We are going to take away that we can’t start off games slowly,” Penberthy said. “We need to come out strong and aggressive rather than being down 6-1. We can’t expect to beat good teams like that.”
Senior Gabriela Siqueiros, lead the team offensively with 11 kills followed by Olivia Quebe, ’16, with 8.
Next, the Eagles will be hosting the Fowler Redcats, Oct. 9.
