Picture Day scheduled, Aug. 23

High school grades 7-11 will be called out of class to Ground Zero for picture day, Aug. 23. Since 2007, Milne Photography has provided portraits for FC to be used for yearbooks and student identification.

Students received a photo package from Milne that provides them with their order form, and requires either cash or check ready for payment.

Although picture day nerves are not uncommon, some students like Jordan Castro, ’15, view picture day as an opportunity to express themselves and start the school year well.

“I actually really like picture day,” Castro said. “It’s a time to just represent yourself and represent the whole school, inside of a little photo. It gives you a chance to dress up nicely and see other people.”

For new student Brittany Bender, ’16, picture day at FC will be a new experience.

“I?m kind of scared, since it?s going to be in the yearbook,” Bender said. “This is my first picture day at FC. I don’t really know what it will be like.”

Having the past three years of experience, senior Kristen Rosenthal recognizes some of the difficulties picture day can pose.

“Picture day is hard during school, because you have to go through a period of school before you take the pictures,” Rosenthal said. “Luckily this year I don?t have to do it.”

While picture day does present difficulties for many students, it can also have a unifying effect.

“The portraits will help kids put faces to names and start to know kids throughout the school, which is good, since it is a small community,” Tom Milne, owner of Milne Photography, said. “It’s nice [for students] to be able to recognize the rest of your classmates. It [picture day] also offers the opportunity for the kid to update a nice picture for their family.”

Within the school’s dress code, students are free to wear their own style of clothing for the event. However, some colors and patterns can have adverse effects on the quality of a picture.

High school secretary Brenda Warkentin gives advice for how students can present themselves well on picture day.

“Wear colors, but no white,” Warkentin said. “Don?t wear white because it tends to make you look really bleached. Solid colors usually look better, or, if you are going to wear prints or stripes make it small rather than big print.”

Milne Photography is located on 1285 E. Nees Avenue, Fresno, CA 93720. For more information call 559-431-0681 or send emails to [email protected].
