Beach trip sign ups open in office

As the varsity football team faces off with Watsonville High School, Student Leadership has planned an event for high school students at Sunset Beach, Oct. 19. Grandparents Day will also be held that day, but the students who have signed up for the beach trip will depart after all grandparents have left .

After the students enjoy lunch with their grandparents, those who signed up for the trip will be leaving around 12:30 p.m. and return from the trip at 2 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Students must sign up for the beach trip in the high school office. The tickets cost $40 until Sept. 28. Between Oct. 1-12 the price increases to $45 and through Oct.15-18 the price increases to $50. The costs will cover the bus ride to the beach and back, snacks while on the bus and the entrance fee for the game.

Students who will not be going to the beach trip will be at school and maintain their regular routine. Students who will attend the beach trip must make up their work for Friday. It is advised to obtain the homework assignments before the trip so that the students can work on it over the weekend.

Since the event will take place before the football game, students will have the opportunity to enjoy the beach before heading to the game. Student Leadership has scheduled a few activities while at the beach, such as beach volleyball.

Student Leadership teacher, Robert Foshee, believes that the beach trip will be a great event that students should go to.

“It’s a great time to go off campus and bond together,” Foshee said. “Also I think its cool to take a lot of students into the game and be a rooting section for the football team. We’ll go to Sunset Beach, which will be about 20 minutes away from the game.”

Students have already begun signing up for the beach trip. Senior Rachel Quiring is excited about the event.

“I feel excited, its the last year for me to go,” Quiring said. “It’s fun to do things with friends outside of school, and cheer for our team at the football game.”

Alumni teacher Eric Witters, ’04, remembers the beach trips he had attended as a student himself.

“It was a ton of fun; we left early in the day,” Witter said. ” We got to hang out at the beach, eat at restaurants and walk around town.”

The students will arrive at the beach around 2:30 p.m. After a few hours at the beach, the students will leave for the football game. Football players and cheerleaders will leave the beach earlier than the students in order to arrive at the stadium for warmups.
