Formal Night highlights campus stars

Demanding directors and temperamental actors seeking fame pool their talents in order to create a masterpiece. Long hours of hard work and dedication put in by each class come together and result in the presentation of four class movies at the Tower Theatre on Feb. 22.

The annual Night of the Stars formal gives the school an opportunity to showcase the talent and abilities of students in the areas of acting and film production.

“The idea for Night of the Stars came around when I was a senior,” Christopher Schultz, student activities director, said. “A group of students were at an ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) student council meeting in Santa Cruz and during a brainstorming session we came up with the idea of making movies for our formal in order to make it more entertaining.”

Many students see the production of the class movie as an opportunity to participate in activities they enjoy.

“I have been helping with the class movie for all four years,” Sam Fisher, ’03, said. “Filming through the years has helped me to learn how to make the ideas I come up with friends work. Plus, it is exciting to see the finished product shown in front of the student body.”

Although the class movies are the highlight of the night, many students feel it is the atmosphere of the event that makes the evening special.

“Night of the Stars is an unforgettable event,” Kathleen von Oehson, ’04, said. “My favorite part of the night is being able to get all dressed up. I also enjoy being with friends and the night is a great time to make memories with friends.”

Although usually held on campus in Ground Zero, the event will be held at the Tower Theatre in the Tower District. The change in scenery will add a new element to the evening for students.

“Having Night of the Stars at Tower Theatre is a way for the event to get outside of the school and get the public interested,” Schultz said. “It is also one of the oldest theatres in town, which is going to make the event more exciting. Dinner at the Daily Planet will make the event seem more formal.”

Tickets for Night of the Stars including dinner and the movies are available until Feb. 7 for $30. The cost to just view the movies is $15. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and the movies begin at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from Cheryl Pohl in the high school office. Pohl can be contacted at 297-9464, ext. 125.
