Volleyball sport shorts: Minarets

The Eagles played against Minarets Mustangs for the second time this season, Oct. 25. Since FC lost to the Mustangs in the previous game, the Eagles came out with more advanced plays and focused on teamwork.

In the first game, both teams had a close match; Eagles focused on strong defense. However, the Minarets were able to defeat FC by digging and serving strong. In the second game, the Eagles changed their game plans to cause confusion on Minarets’ court. Despite their effort, FC lost to Minarets, 28-25. The third game was the highlight for the Eagles, since they defeated the Minarets in the last game by 25-21.

According to freshman Olivia Quebe, it is important to contain positive attitude and enjoy the time on the court.

“I think it’s really important to be positive at all times,” Quebe said. “We can’t get frustrated when we lose, because the season is almost over; we need to enjoy our time together. Also, we only have a few more games left, so I am sure we will do great if we just help and encourage each other.”

Despite losing, senior Kristen Rosenthal says she is proud of her teammates for improving throughout the season. She encourages the younger players to keep up with the sport.

“I don’t think the scores really matter,” Rosenthal said. “We played as a team and we improved so much compared to beginning of the season. I am sad that the season is almost over, but I see so much potential in all the girls. I highly recommend them to keep playing until their senior year.”

The Eagles will next play against Riverdale Cowboys on Nov. 1.
