History classes to present presidential candidates (VIDEO)

UPDATE: The VIDEO of the history classes portraying both presidential candidates and their political platforms was added to this article at the bottom, Nov. 15. Senior Rachel Quiring shot and edited the video which presents scenes from the speeches and skits performed in Ground Zero.

In anticipation for the upcoming presidential election, a chapel will encourage students to talk about the two presidential candidates, President Obama and Governor Mitt Romeny, Nov. 1. History teacher Jordana Siebert and her Advanced Placement (AP) US history class and US history classes will host the chapel along with Bible and history teacher Robert Foshee’s civics class.

Mikayla Messer, ’14, is looking forward to the chapel. She believes it is a good way for students to get informed about the different policies that the two candidates have.

“My skit is promoting Obama and although I don’t agree with Obama’s policies I think it’s cool to dig deep and find the good in his campaign,” Messer said. “It’s supposed to be very funny and I think the audience will enjoy it. Hopefully the chapel goes off without a hitch.”

Sophomore, Collin Winegarden will be participating in the election chapel. Winegarden is nervous to present his speech but know that this will benefit the other classes and provide information.

Eric Cowin, ’14, Kathryn Damschen, ’15, and I will talking about the economy,” Winegarden said. “Basically, how welfare is messing up the economy. I think the election chapel is a good idea. It allows people to be more aware of whats going on in the government and prepare for the election that is coming up.”

Siebert feels that this chapel is a great way for students to become aware of whats going on in the government. Preparing the students for when they are actually allowed to vote, the school will be holding ballots on November 6th.

“The election chapel is something that Mrs. {Hallie} Rojeski has been doing for years,” Siebert said. “She ran it by me and asked if high school would want to do it as well. Thinking about it, this only happens every four years and its a really good way to get all the U.S History classes and Civics classes involved in the election and active and paying attention in what is happening in our country today.

Getting the students involved in the country’s major issues, Siebert continues to tell more of the goal for the November first chapel.

“The election chapel is really just informing the rest of the school the two major party candidates,” Siebert said. “We are focusing on Mitt Romney and President Obama, not the Green Parties or Libertarian parties, but rather the two main candidates. The itinerary for the chapel is having an anti Romney and anti Obama, Romney and Obama skits and the A.P. class will be talking about some of the current issues that each candidate will be talking about and then there will be two speeches one for each candidate done by two students.”

Senior JP Caprioglio is one of the only students at FC old enough to vote. Caprioglio explains how the chapel will help provide necessary information for him on whom to vote for.

“I am apart of the presentation on Thursday,” Caprioglio said. “My role is to give reasons why Obama should not be re-elected for 2012 election. I’m not to excited to present, but rather to hear the others speak. I think it will be a learning experience for everyone I believe it will it will help curve my decision by giving me factual evidence in who i should rely on and vote for.”

Olivia Zizzo, ’15, is also one of the selected students to be apart of the skit. Zizzo is excited to be apart of educating the school on current issues in America

“I am playing a role in one of the skits,” Zizzo said. “I’m excited to be apart of the chapel because we wil be informing the students about the candidates. The main purpose of the chapel will help the students be able to understand the candidates and how they affect the country.”
