Eagles lose second league game against Minarets–64-47, Jan. 15
The FC varsity boys basketball team played in their second West Sequoia League game as they traveled to Minarets High School to take on the Mustangs. It was the Eagles second straight game on the road. They were just coming off a close loss against their rival, the Caruthers Blue Raiders. Looking to regain their momentum and go 1-1 in WSL standings, the Eagles played with a purpose.
The game was physical and very close out of the gate. The Eagles experimented on defense, running both zone and man. At the end of the first quarter FC led 14-16. In the second, Minarets got their crowd and the momentum to turn in their direction and took the lead going into the half, 30-25.
Out of the break, FC came out strong and rallied to take the lead. Going into the fourth quarter, the Eagles led 40-42. However, the Eagles struggled in the final quarter. They failed to stop the mustangs on defense and could not seem to find the shots on offense, scoring only five points in the fourth quarter. FC lost 64-47.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 6-11 overall and a record of 0-2 in WSL play.
The Eagles were lead by Senior Matt Howard with 28 points. Behind Howard was Caleb Nale, ’14, with 6 points and Jordan Boudreau, ’13, with 5 points.
Senior captain Brandon McCormick says the team struggled on both sides of the ball; they simply just need to work harder.
“We had too many turnovers,” McCormick said. “We just need to play better as a team and show more effort. We have a must win game on Tuesday if we want to win league, and we all just need to set up our individual games”
The Eagles next game will be home against the Parlier Panthers at 7 p.m. at Parlier, Jan. 25.
