As an annual tradition, the student leadership class plans the campus formal event, Night of the Stars (NOTS), months in advance in order to create a night to remember. The first signs of the event were released today with the date and theme of the event. Everything from decorations to invitations will revolve around the theme “Lights, Camera, Action,” which includes all things Hollywood, to be held on Feb. 16, 2013.
The campus formal event is much different than expected. Instead of dancing, each class produces their own movie, ranging in times, to be shown at an Oscar-like event. Students dress in formal attire and often bring dates. Although bringing a date is encouraged, groups of students are also welcome at the event.
The evening also includes dinner and an award show to reward the students for their dedication in completing each film. Currently, details of the event are still being decided while the NOTS movies are just beginning to take shape.
As advisor of student leadership, Robert Foshee, is excited for the opportunities the theme will allow students to explore in decorations and details.
“I think the theme will go great with everyone’s personal style,” Foshee said. “I think it will glamorize the event. The class has already worked really hard to create ideas for centerpieces and decorations. NOTS should turn out great and look great all around.”
For freshmen, attending their first formal is a big step, but Andrew Moore feels excited for his first event.
“Well, I’ve never been to NOTS before and I think it will be a fun new experience,” Moore said. “I don’t exactly know what to expect. I haven’t decided if I want to take a girl of not yet. Maybe I will, and maybe I won’t.”
Student leadership member, Lexie Ellis, ’13, will be attending her final NOTS, but is enjoying being involved in the planning of the event.
“It’s bittersweet, but I’m excited I’m in leadership this year so I can be a part of planning NOTS,” Ellis said. “That was my groups theme, so I’m glad we are doing it. It’s a fun theme and I think we can do a lot with it.”
