Through the tragic rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary, Dec. 14, 2012, children in schools and workplaces across the nation now take into account the importance of safety precautions and the consequences of not following them.

The Jan. 10, 2013, article, “New locked doors policy enforced, enhance student protection,” by Meredith Monke, it provides personal facts and opinions about the importance of safety procedures around the school to prevent jeopardizing people in dangerous situations.

Many times safety procedures are not put into action until the same incident occurs repeatedly. It?s unfortunate how innocent lives are being traumatized due to this. Fortunately, the primary efforts are now taking place.

I believe it?s an eye opener for many individuals and families of how seriously dangerous the world remains. If we put aside red flag signals and ignore them, loved ones may end up in jeopardy.

Through locking classroom doors during school hours, I?ve noticed an increased campus security, and the distractions from talkative students have also mellowed. I now sense that there is more structure in the classroom environment. When the doors were unlocked, it gave accessibility to get easily distracted by free roaming the hallways while maintaining a discussion during class time.

Tragic events such as these show how fragile life remains. I for one am glad our campus administrators continue to provide protection around FC.
