Eagles defend home court–54-49, Feb. 8
The Fresno Christiian boys basketball team hosted the Parlier Panthers on Tuesday, Feb. 12. The team had beaten the Panthers at Parlier High School only a week before, and were looking to repeat the performance in front of their own crowd.
The Eagles dominated the first quarter. They scored the games first points and never looked back. FC’s defense was stellar and their offense ran smoothly. At the end of the first, FC led 19-5. In the second, Parlier changed their offensive strategy and managed to score a bit more, but they still could not find a way to stop the Eagles’ offense. Going into the half, FC lead: 30-15.
In the third, FC struggled offensively as the Panthers stepped up their defensive pressure and caused some turnovers. Both teams got up a lot of shots, but they just didn’t seem to go in. At the end of three quarters, FC was still hanging on 36-25. In the fourth, Parlier continued their defensive pressure and matched it with some offensive production to dwindle the lead. At one point, the Panthers brought it within five points, but after an Eagle’s timeout, FC regrouped and came back strong. They ended the game on a 11-2 run and won 51-37.
The Eagles were led by Senior Matt Howard (16) and Sophomore Trevor Beal (14). Parlier has not yet posted their scores for the game.
With the win, FC improves to 11-13 overall with a 5-4 record in WSL play, tied for second place in the standings.
Freshman Justin Houts says that the game went well and everyone played well as a team.
“We found a lot of success early,” Houts said. “Things were going good. We had a little trouble in the third quarter, but we bounced back like we normally do and won the game. I think now, with only one game left, we have our eyes set on playoffs. I think with the way we’ve been playing lately we will do really good, I just hope we can get in.”
The Eagles next game will be on Friday, Feb. 15 as Fresno Christian plays their final home game and they honor the seniors against Fowler.
