CARUTHERS PRE-SEASON TOURNAMENT
EAGLES FALL TO CRUSADERS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT LOSS –11-6, Mar. 2
For the third game of the Caruthers Tournament, the Eagles travelled to Lemoore to play the Kings Christian High School Crusaders. Both teams were yet to win a game this season and were hungry for a victory.
Nate Bender took the mound for the eagles, and after shutting out the Eagles first three batters, the Crusaders got hot. They scored seven runs in the first, four of which came of a grand slam to deep right-center. The Eagles got out of the inning with a tall hill to climb.
It took a while before FC found the groove offensively. Kings Christian had a perfect game through two innings and a no hitter through three, but in the fourth the Eagles got some momentum and gained three runs.
In the fifth and sixth, the Crusaders continued their offensive efficiency. They brought their total to eleven runs as they were in the zone with their swings. After a Crusader pitching change, FC took advantage and tacked on three more runs, making it a five run game. However, FC ran out of outs as they were handed their third loss of the season 11-6.
Freshman outfielder Tyler Breedlove says that game didn’t go as planned, but after some practice the team should have a really good season.
“We played good.” Breedlove said, “But we were sloppy at the end. We could’ve done better, we didn’t reach our full potential. We just need to improve our defense and not make silly errors, but I believe we can go all the way to valley.”
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 0-3 for the season. They have two more games in the Caruthers Tournament before the Tournament Finals on Mar. 9.
The Eagles next game will be at home as the boys host the Tranquillity High School Tigers on Mar. 4.
