CARUTHERS PRE-SEASON TOURNAMENT
EEagles pull off victory against rival Tigers –7-6, March 4

Just days after playing the Tranquillity Tigers once this season, the Eagles played them again, hosting the match up on the North field on March 4.

Both teams came off to a fast start, scoring one run each in the first inning. With an uneventful second the Eagles looked for improvement.

In the third, the Tigers scored off of an error by the Eagles, but the Eagles returned by scoring four points and pulling into the lead with a score of 6-3. In the fourth, Tranquillity scored one more and then two more in the fifth tying it up to 6-6.

Senior JP Caprioglio relieved Sophomore Ben Callahan as pitcher in the fifth and drilled numerous fast balls to keep the Eagles in view of a win.

The Eagles held off Tranquillity in the seventh inning. At the end of the inning the bases were loaded after walking all three of the previous hitters. Sophomore Ben Callahan was at bat and Lucas Lopez was on third. Callahan hit a grounder and Lopez stole home for the win, 7-6.

Senior JP Carioglio was disappointed that he was walked but was happy for the first win of the season.

“I was disheartened that I got walked,” said Caprioglio. “But I had a lot of confidence at the plate. It was such a morale booster, we needed that. If we didn?t get that one we would?ve been shot for this thursdays game.

The Eagles will next play the Horned Toads in Coalinga.
