Softball sport shorts: Orange Cove

GIRLS’ SOFTBALL SPORT SHORTS, 2012-13–
(Scrimmages do not count toward win/loss record. Visit the Sports Section for girls’ softball features. For a simple overview of scores and upcoming games, check the Spring sport box scores, 2013 for dates, opponents and times for all Eagle sports.)

Be sure to visit the 2012-13 girls’ softball schedule, home page, or check out Maxpreps.com. The Eagles are currently 1-5 overall and 0-0 in the West Sequoia League as of March 20. The Eagles will next play against the Kings Christian Crusaders, March 22.

Orange Cove defeats FC, 6-3
The Eagles hosted the Orange Cove High School Titans in their sixth non-league game of the season.

Orange Cove led off the first inning with two runs, which were unanswered by FC. The second inning remained scoreless for both teams, but the third yielded two runs for the Titans and again none from the home team, making the score 4-0.

The visiting team was unable to score in the fourth inning and the Eagles took the opportunity to drive in a run. Neither team scored in the fifth inning, but in the sixth, Orange Cove tacked on another run. The final inning produced one run for the Titans and two for the Eagles. Despite the Eagles’ efforts, the visiting team emerged victorious by a score of 6-3.

Returning varsity outfielder Gaby Siqueiros, ’15, noticed that the team was having a hard time communicating and thinking about the next out(s), as well as maintaining focus throughout the whole game, as opposed to brief windows of concentration. She believes that, in order to win the next game, the Eagles will have to talk more, loosen up and just have fun.

“We did well at focusing before the game but lost it a few times amidst play,” Siqueiros said. “I think we could have talked more and started thinking a step ahead instead of hesitating. I hope to see lots of enthusiasm and confidence in this upcoming game and I just hope everyone has fun.”

FC will next travel to play the Kings Christian Crusaders, at 3:30 p.m., March 22.
