EAGLES DEFEAT LEAGUE OPPONENT IN WSL OPENER, April 9

For their first league game of the season, the Fresno Christian baseball team hosted the visiting Parlier Panthers on Tuesday, April 9. The first game of any season is always a very important one, and both teams were hungry for a victory.

Sophomore Ben Callahan took the mound for the Eagles to start the game. After a scoreless first inning, Parlier started seeing the ball better and put two runs on the board for the Panthers. Again in the third, Parlier tacked on two more to take a 4-0 lead. However, in the bottom half of the inning, the Eagle’s bats came alive. They scored 7 runs in the inning to take the lead by three.

Both teams continued to swing the bats well. By the time the sixth inning rolled around, the Eagles were still leading 11-8. Parlier drove in one more in the sixth to make it 11-9 while FC was held scoreless in the bottom half.

In the seventh, Parlier needed some offensive production if thy wanted to win, but Senior JP Caprioglio came in to close out the came. However, the Panthers loaded the bases with only one out. After Caprioglio struck out the next batter, FC was one out away from their first League win. The next batter drove a fly ball to right field, where Junior Lucas Lopez was their to make their final out and Fresno Christian grabbed a 1-0 start to the West Sequoia League.

Freshman Tyler Breedlove not only grabbed the win for FC, but also was extremely important at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance. Meawhile, JP Caprioglio got the save.

Freshman Tyler Breedlove is very happy to grab the first win of the season, and also happy about his individual performance.

“We played well,” Breedlove said, “Both teams competed but we came out on top. I’m happy that I was able to contribute by going 3-for-3, especially as a freshman. I was just going out there and doing my best.”

The Eagles are now 2-6 overall and 1-0 in WSL.

FC’s next game will be on Friday, April 12, as the Eagles will host the visiting Fowler Redcats.
