EAGLES GIVE UP NAIL-BITER, April 19
For their fourth game of West Sequoia League, the Fresno Christian baseball team travelled up the hill to Minarets High School to play the Mustangs on April 19. With perfect weather and beautiful facility, the stage was set for a great game.
The game was competitive throughout. Senior JP Caprioglio took the mound for the Eagles and was zoned in. Both team’s pitching dominated the game. In the first inning, both teams struggled to be productive at the plate. In the second, the mustangs finally got a run in, but pitching dominated both sides.
Each inning, defense kept both teams in check and off the score board. It was not until the sixth inning that the Eagles finally drove in a run off a Caprioglio triple. However, after a failed “squeeze” play, the Eagles got out of the inning with only one run. The Mustangs answered back in the bottom half by adding another run of their own, retaking the lead 2-1. In the seventh, the mustangs struck out the side to take home the win.
The Mustangs improved to 2-2 in league, while FC fell to 1-3 in WSL play.
Although it was a loss, Senior JP Caprioglio was very pleased with how the game turned out, and is looking forward to the next time the two teams play.
“It was a really good game,” Caprioglio said, “It was fun to be a part of and a fun game to pitch. Although we lost, we played one of the best games we have all year against one of the best teams in our league. The team is reallly starting to come together and we are really improving. The next time we see those guys at home, weshould be ableto pull off the win”
The Eagles next game will be on Tuesday, April 23 as they host the visiting Riverdale Cowboys.
