EAGLES STRUGGLE WITH DEFENSE, GIVE UP LEAGUE GAME, APRIL 23
The Fresno Christian baseball team hosted their third league game of the season as they competed against the Riverdale CowboysTuesday, April 23. Both teams found themselves in the midst of losing streaks and were needing a win if they wanted to be playoff bound.
Freshman Bailey Brogan took the hill for the Eagles, and Riverdale took an early lead by scoring two in the first, and two more in the second, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead. However, in the bottom half of the second, the Eagles managed to get their first run across the board, and had a big inning in the third as they tied the game 4-4.
In the fourth, the Cowboys struck back. The Eagles defense struggled as they ‘Boys drove in 5, retaking the lead by adding a five run cushion. For the rest of the game, FC got runners on, but struggled to mount a rally and comb back. By the third out in the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles fell 11-6.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 1-4 in West Sequoia League and 2-10 overall. While the Cowboys improve to 1-4 in league and 4-12 overall.
Senior second baseman Dominic Mendoza says that the game was a disappointment and that the team should have won against an opponent like Riverdale.
“We didn’t play very good.” Mendoza said, “Riverdale wasn’t a very good team, and we just let them get the best of us. We came in expecting an easy win and they simply outplayed us.”
The Eagles next game will be on Friday, April 26 as FC will host the visiting Caruthers Blue Raiders.
