Players train for upcoming games
The volleyball girls started the season off strong with a three out of five game win against the Laton Mustangs and another three out of five game win against the Immanuel Eagles. The team will be participating in the Caruthers’s Raisin Volleyball Tournament, Aug. 28-31. The tournament will be held at Mendota High School and the FC team’s first game will be at 3 p.m., Aug. 31.
Volleyball has a junior varsity (JV) and a varsity team this year. While Annaleah Madison is the only senior on the volleyball team, there are also four other returning varsity athletes.
PE teacher, film production manager and coach of the JV girls volleyball team,Michael Ogdon believes some of the underclassmen players will have to step up and fill some important roles. He also thinks that the diversity of skill levels within the team creates a group of girls that will be interesting to coach.
“Varsity girls have goals to win their division, go deeper into the playoffs and even win a valley championship for division five,” Ogden said. “They are young, athletic and talented. Underclassmen like Sierra Duffy, Kristina Muniz, Jennifer King and Hannah Nale will help boost the line up. It?s a team that is mixed with experience and young talent.”
Senior Annaleah Madison has high hopes for the team this year and enjoys getting to know the underclassmen. She also thinks this year will be successful and prove a better record for the team.
“I’m very excited about this year,” Madison said. “We are better than we were last year and I expect more wins. I also believe that there will be a lot more effort from the younger girls.”
