Despite not having elections last year, Student Leadership is opening up the polls for the president, vice president and secretary positions. Candidates for the positions will give their speeches to convince the student body to vote for them in chapel, Aug. 29.

The participants must be a part of Student Leadership and must be an upperclassmen. The contenders for president consist of seniors Caleb Nale and Annalise Rosik. For vice president Ivette Ibarra, ’15, Chris Grossman, ’15, David Ryu, ’14 and Ashley Garcia, ’15, are running against one another. Finally for secretary there is only one candidate running for the position, senior Hannah Avila.

Voting will take place directly after the speeches are given. And the winners will be announced after all votes are counted, Student Leadership hopes by the end of the day.

Student Leadership advisor Robert Foshee is very encouraged by the upcoming elections. Believing it will help the student body as well as the candidates individually, Foshee sees a great opportunity for improvement in leadership among the students.

“I think it’s a good idea to bring the elections back,” Foshee said. “It gives the kids an opportunity to build their leadership skills and get more connected with the school. The students who fill the positions will give a face to the student body as well as a voice. The candidates are all good quality people who will do a great job.
