[media-credit name=”FC file photo” align=”alignright” width=”200″]DSC_1759 copy[/media-credit]The FC Eagles traveled to Merced to face the Stone Ridge Christian Knights, Sept. 11.

In the first set, the Knights took the lead from the start, and easily won the match. Stone Ridge defeated FC, 25-9.

The Eagles were determined to put up more of a fight in the second match. However, the Knights still came out with a win, 25-18.

As the third match approached, the Eagles gave it everything they had and managed to beat the Knights, 25-19.

In the fourth match, both teams fought hard to stay in the game. However, it was the Knights who were victorious over the Eagles, 25-21.

Coach Jonathan Penberthy was happy to see his girls still fight back after being defeated in the first two matches.

“As a team, we got off to a slow start,” Penberthy said. “But as usual, we fought back and played really hard in the third and fourth set. Also, the other coach was very complimentary and told us we improved a lot from last year.”

Senior Ivette Ibarra accomplished some of the goals set during practice.

“We worked hard and that was something we wanted to establish as a team from the previous days conversation,” Ibarra said. “I think yesterday we proved that we can work hard against a good team. Overall there also wasn’t as much negativity as there has been in the past.”

Senior Breanna Jennings saw the game as a learning experience for future games.

“I felt like it was a learning experience because in the first set, we got crushed,” Jennings said. “However, we overcame our errors and it taught us what we need to do in future games like that.”

Ivette Ibarra, ’15, and Olivia Quebe, ’16, led the team offensively. They finished the game with 10 kills each.

The Eagles will be hosting the Mendota Aztecs, Sept. 16.
