The campus basketball team will be hosting the Hustlin’ Eagles Youth basketball clinic at the FC gym, Nov. 16. The clinic is for young boys and girls, K-8, to improve their skills on the sport.

Each player will receive individual instruction from the campus staff, including players from the varsity, and JV teams.

The charge for this program is $40, and $10 extra for an additional child which includes a t-shirt for all participants.

Each age group will have different session times. K-2 grade will play from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Following the, grades 3-5 will participate from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., and lastly grades 6-8 from 3-5 p.m.

Attendees should arrive a few minutes earlier than their session to register and receive their t-shirt.

Varsity basketball player Caleb Nale, ’14, is excited to be a mentor, and help younger students tune their skills.

“I’m really excited to help the young kids,” Nale said. “I think it will be fun to watch them have fun playing basketball. I think having the varsity team be as mentors to them will be good for out team for growth and getting to know each other better for the season to come.”

Coach Robert Hubbard is excited to expand the scope of Eagle basketball to the younger set of athletes whether they are currently playing the game or not.

My number one expectation is the kids that attend have fun while learning the game of basketball,” coach Hubbard said. “Regardless if a child has never played basketball, they will definitely learn and have a great experience.”

Hubbard said that he is most looking forward to the smiles of the faces of kids who attend and believes that events such as this will get kids involved in campus sports programs.

“Sports are such a rewarding endeavor and, whether it’s basketball or any other sport, I think that athletics are very important in teaching life lessons,” Hubbard continued. “If kids can get excited about being an Eagle at an early age, we’ll develop kids that want to be a part of our athletic programs in the future.”
