The boys basketball program is in it’s winter season, in which league and postseason games will be played. The varsity team is coming off the 2012-13 season in which they finished 6-4 in league, but did not make playoffs.
This season will be the second played by the Eagles in Division IV, after being moved up in 2012 from Division V.
Junior Trevor Beal is optimistic about the year, hoping to capitalize on the momentum the team garnered from preseason play.
“I’m looking forward to the upcoming season,” Beal said. “Our team has great potential to make a deep postseason run and improve from last year’s efforts. We’re gonna have a good chance to take the West Sequoia League (WSL) title and make Fresno Christian’s first D-IV postseason appearance.”
The Eagles are currently 1-0, after beating Yosemite High School 64-48, Dec. 3. For more information on this game, see the Dec. 3 article, “Basketball sport shorts: Yosemite”.
FC returns two starters from last year, brothers Caleb, ’14, and Cole, ’15, Nale. Other starters include senior cousins Brian Scott, N’Gai Jones and junior Trevor Beal rounds out the front five.
Head coach Robert Hubbard is in his second tenure with FC, and has brought many new aspects to the program, including hosting a tournament, running a camp for younger kids and fundraising.
