EAGLES SPEND WEEKEND WINNING, 63-37, Jan. 21
For the one-day Sierra Pacific Showcase, the Fresno Christian basketball team played Strathmore High School. The showcase feature a variety of teams across the valley as the Eagles were one of the many selected to participate.
Playing without senior guard N’Gai Jones due to injury, the Eagles needed to step up their game to fill the hole in the starting lineup. However the team answered the call and came out strong; not only offensively but defensively as well. Through the first quarter, the Eagles held Strathmore to only right points and held a six point advantage. In the second quarter they continued to play well and increased their lead and went into halftime with a 21-point lead, 35-14
In the third quarter, the eagles continued to play well and efficient. However, Strathmore came out strong and managed to score 20 points in the third quarter, cutting into the eagles lead. However, despite Strathmore outscoring the Eagles in the second half, they were not able to make the game close as FC won comfortably, 67-50.
For the Eagles, senior Brian Scott lead the way, scoring twenty one points. Strathmore on the other hand did not submit their stats.
Junior Chris Grossman says it was a quality team effort and was good for the team to regain some confidence after two tough losses.
“It was a great way to spend the weekend,” Grossman said, “The team really needed a game like this to boost morale after two straight losses; we fed off each other’s energy well and truly played as a unit. I look forward to our game against Minarets and can’t wait to continue this team play.”
The team’s next game will be at home for the West Sequoia League opener against the Minarets Mustangs.
