Senior trip planned for LA

After a long hard year of classes, raising grades and suffering from senioritis, the time has finally come for the class of 2003 to take a break from school. The seniors will journey to Los Angeles for five days of sightseeing and fun on May 19-23.

“The senior trip is a good way to end the year,” Scott Falk, campus pastor and senior Bible teacher, said. “It is a way for the students to come together and complete their experience here.”

Many events are planned for the seniors to do in order to get the most out of the trip. The seniors will be visiting Santa Monica Beach, Huntington Beach, going to the play The Producers, going to Medieval Times, attending an Anaheim Angels game, and ending with a day at Disneyland.

“To come up with things to do on the trip, we sat down and had a brainstorming session,” Molly Sargent, English teacher, said. “We tried to think of the most enjoyable things so that the students will be able to have the most fun.”

As part of the trip, seniors will also be serving the community. They will be stopping at The Oaks, a camp at Lake Hughes, to provide various services for the camp in order to show Christ’s love while having fun together.

“It is important in the midst of fun to pause and come to the realization of how much God has given us,” Jonathan Howard, ’03, said. “Serving at the camp is a good way for us to come together and work as a class to accomplish something for the community.”

Although most seniors participate in the trip, not all members of the class will be going. For various reasons, 66 of the 76 seniors will attend.

“Mr. (Gary) Schultz and the chaperones unanimously agreed on a few students that could not go on the trip for disciplinary reasons,” Sargent said. “There are a few not going because of academic reasons, and the others are not going on the trip due to either work or because of finals in college classes they are taking.”

Meant to be the last major gathering for the seniors as a group, the trip provides memories for the students’ while marking the end of their senior year.

“I am really looking forward to spending time with my classmates,” Jennifer Smit,’03, said. “I hope to make memories that I can look back on and remember what a great time I had with my friends.”
