EAGLES BEAT THE PANTHERS 2-1
With a home advantage, the Eagles faces against the Parlier Panthers, Feb. 12. The outcome of this game would determine whether or not the Eagles could advance into playoffs.
Feeling the weight of importance this game held, the girls came out determined to win. Starting with the ball, the Eagles carried it up the field, pressuring the opponents’ defense.
After countless corner kicks and shots on the goal, the Eagles were able to earn a score from Gabriela Siqueiros. Before the end of the first half, the Panthers slid past the defense and scored, finishing the half tied 1-1.
“It was awesome being able to finally make a goal after the team had so many shots on goal,” Siqueiros said. “You could really feel the pressure of the importance of this game from the girls. It was a relief to win the game and advance to playoffs.”
As halftime ended, the Eagles came back out determined to win and remain strong for the last 40 minutes of the game. Seeing the pressure, the other team frantically pushed back to defense, trying to hold off the Eagles.
With less than 10 minutes of the game, senior captain Tynin Fries takes a shot from inside the box, shooting past the goalie. As the clock ticks down, the Eagles remained composed and were able to stop the Panthers from scoring, finishing the game 2-1.
“The Parlier game was a must win for us,” Martinez said. “Knowing this, we made some position adjustments that worked to our benefit. The girls came out, played well and we came out with the win.”
