With a nervous glance behind them, high school seniors nonchalantly pick up a letter addressed to their parents. This forbidden piece of paper may contain the events planned for the campus enigma known as Grad Night 2003. In a moment of dilemma, curiosity propels seniors to take up a life of crime.

As they scan the page with weightless fingers, terms such as “Location 1: Confirmed,” dash seniors’ attempts at espionage.

Rumors have flown wild on campus throughout the planning process that began early this year.

“I heard that they are taking us to the desert to ride quads and then we are going on a midnight helicopter ride,” Nathan Yockey, ’03, said. “I’ve heard so many different stories through the grapevine that are not true but I know whatever is planned will be a lot of fun.”

With information scarce, the illusive party following the graduation ceremony has been purposefully planned with secrecy in order to spark curiosity among seniors.

“We wanted everything to be a surprise so that certain expectation would not prevent anyone from missing out on this opportunity,” Cheryl Van Beek, Grad Nite committee chairperson, said. “Nothing will be forced fun and the fun will be enjoyable for everyone.”

Parents of senior classmen and faculty members organizing the event assure the night to be a memorable one.

“There will be a diversity of activities planned and there will be something for every personality,” Mrs. Van Beek said. “I can say that every senior will receive at least one and maybe more than one of our prizes.”

As far as students are concerned, the all-night party filled with thrilling entertainment to pass the hours presents the promise of a good time despite the lack of information.

“Grad Nite is going to be a blast and I can’t wait,” Hannah Page, ’03, said. “I’ve heard that we will have really great prizes and we will be doing some really fun activities.”

Despite their lack of disclosure, parents and teachers have worked relentlessly to provide graduates with a fun celebration in what will most likely be the last opportunity to assemble as classmen.
