EAGLES HOLD OFF HORNED FROGS, March 19
Seeking to remain undefeated, the Fresno Christian baseball team hosted the Coalinga Horned Frogs, Wednesday afternoon. The teams were predicted to match up pretty evenly, and the outcome did not disappoint.
Freshman George Castro took the hill for the Eagles and got them off to a great start, throwing a one-two-three inning. The Eagles were held in check offensively and were not able to capitalize on Coalinga’s inability to score.
However in the third inning the Eagles were able to bring home Michael Fu for the game’s first run. Again in the fourth inning FC was able to drive in another run, making the score 2-0. But in the fourth inning Coalinga struck back, taking the lead 3-2. But the Eagles would not back dawn as they managed to come back with two more runs and regained the lead 4-3.
In the fifth, senior Caleb Nale came in to finish the game on the mound, but in doing so gave the up tying run later in the top of the sixth inning, making the score 4-4.
However, he made up it by leading off the sixth inning with a triple, rallying the hitters behind him. With one out and a runner on second and third, sophomore Tyler Breedlove poked a hit into shallow right field, scoring both runs and giving the Eagles the lead once more. After the inning drew to a close, the game was called to due time and the Eagles reman undefeated through five games with the 6-4 victory.
Sophomore Tyler Sellers says that the win was a great booster for the team and that they should be competitive throughout the rest of the year.
“The game against coalinga was really good.” Sellers said, “We did all our routine stuff and were very competitive for the entire length of the game. We still have some things to work on for the games against Firebaugh and Caruthers but it definitely prepared us for the rest of the season.”
The Eagles will next play on Saturday as the team travels to Avenal High School for a double header.
