GIRLS’ SOFTBALL SPORT SHORTS, 2013-14–
Scrimmages do not count toward win/loss record. Visit the Sports Section for girls’ softball features. For a simple overview of scores and upcoming games, check the Spring sport box scores: 2014 for dates, opponents and times for all Eagle sports.

Be sure to visit the 2013-14 girls’ softball schedule, home page or check out Maxpreps.com. The Eagles are currently 3-4-1 overall and 0-1 in the West Sequoia League as of March 31. The Eagles will next play against the Fowler Redcats at 4 p.m., April 3.

EAGLES DEFEAT AVENAL 15-2
FC traveled to play the Avenal Buccaneers in their sixth non-league game of the season, March 22.

The Eagles led off the first inning with two runs, only allowing the Buccaneers to score once. In their second and third at bats, FC put one run across and prevented Avenal from scoring, bringing the game to 4-1, Eagles.

The fourth inning yielded two runs for the visiting team and one run for the Buccaneers, which would prove to be the home team’s final run scored in the game. The Eagles increased their lead to thirteen runs with three runs in the fifth inning, two runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh, securing their third win of the season and giving them a two-game winning streak, ending the game, 15-2.

Head Coach Jeff Regan feels privileged to have played Avenal, not only because of the scenery and location of the ball field, but also because he had a chance to get to know their coaches a bit. After finding out that the Avenal coaching staff were Christians as well, Regan and his assistants shared a BBQ lunch with the opposing coaches.

“We spent a good portion of Saturday in the sun-bathed, picturesque, rolling hills of Avenal,” Regan said. “We’ve been blessed with a dedicated and committed coaching staff picked by God’s own hand. The believers known as the Fresno Christian coaching staff bonded over hotdogs with the fellow brothers in Christ of Avenal High School.”

Assistant Coach Matt Weimer was pleased with the focus and execution exhibited by the team in this game, and especially appreciates the job done by his pitcher-catcher duo on the defense.

“We executed offensively,” Weimer said. “Defensively we kept our focus, specifically our pitcher. Over the year she has kept her focus and composure, and our catcher has done much to assist her in that.”

The Eagles will next travel to play the Fowler Redcats at 4 p.m., April 3.
