EAGLES WIN MATCHES, LOOK TO SECURE SECOND PLACE IN LEAGUE
On March 27 the Eagles tennis team played the Caruthers Blue Raiders for the second time this season, winning 8-1. FC swept singles, losing only in first doubles. The Eagles improved to 6-2 in league with the win.
Despite the lopsided score, the Eagles played it close in several matches, with tiebreaker victories in first and second singles. The Eagles’s lone loss in first doubles also went to tiebreaker. Thanks to the sweep of singles matches, the Eagles’ victory was assured by the time first and second doubles took the court.
Freshman Zach Passmore won at third doubles with Cole Nale. He said he enjoyed the competition.
“We did pretty well,” Passmore said. “I hadn’t played doubles with Cole before, but we won. It was a lot of fun.”
Coach Robert Foshee focused on key matches coming up in the season.
“We played well this match,” Foshee said. “We need to look forward to our next two matches, which should be competitive. Dos Palos and Fowler are next, and if we win both, we should secure second place in league.”
Junior Jordan Castro won in sixth singles, playing in that position for only the second time this year. He observed that doubles is his preferred game, but he was pleased with the result in singles.
“The team as a whole did well,” Castro said. “I’m not sure how I feel about playing singles instead of doubles. Singles is fun, but doubles is what I am best at and what I enjoy most. Still, it was good to get the win for the team.”
The Eagles play next at Dos Palos, April 3.
