FOWLER TAKES FC, 8-1
For their second West Sequoia League game of the season, the Fresno Christian baseball team traveled to Fowler High School to play the Redcats. The team was looking to bounce back after a loss in their league opener to Caruthers.
Fowler started their ace, senior Matt Morales and kept the Eagle hitters off-balance. After a one-two-three top half of the first, the Redcats were able to take an early lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs off Eagle pitcher Dillon Owens, ’15.
After a scoreless second inning, Fowler tacked on three more in the third, increasing their lead to 6-0. Following Owens, freshman George Castro came in and managed to keep the damage minimal. However, despite Castro’s pitching performance, FC made multiple errors in the field and were not able to keep the game close.
On the other side of the ball they struggled too, managing only one hit through seven innings. Fowler kept the game in check and went on to win 8-1.
Sophomore Tyler Breedlove says the team made some mistakes in the field that could have kept the game close and that they need to improve if the want to make a strong playoff run.
“He had some mental mistakes and some errors that shouldn’t have happened,” Breedlove said. “We just need to settle down and get our feet back under us again. If we want to make playoffs, we have to do the small things right and be able to compete against good teams with good pitchers.”
With the win, Fowler improves to 1-1 in WSL play while the Eagles fall 0-2 in WSL and 7-5 overall.
FC’s next game will be Tuesday, where the team plays the Minarets Mustangs at home at 4 p.m.
