The baseball team will host Fowler High School later today to play the Redcats in a WSL matchup. The rivalry between the two schools dates back many years and crosses multiple sports.
The Eagles currently stand at 8-7-1 overall, while the Redcats hold a 8-12 record. However, Caruthers holds the league advantage, boasting a 3-2 WSL record compared to FC’s 1-4 stand.
The two teams met earlier this year, with the Redcats taking the game 8-1, April 1.
The Eagles won their last game, a 9-7 victory over Riverdale, unlike Fowler, who lost a 8-2 contest to Caruthers High School. FC will need to mount a successful stretch in the coming games in order to make a run at playoffs.
Sophomore Tyler Breedlove looks forward to the competition and the Eagles’ chance to prove their merit.
“We really need this game,” said Breedlove. “With the losses that we’ve had over the past few weeks, a victory would be a huge turn for us mentally, and would help our dwindling league record. We need to come out sharp on defense and make solid contact at the plate. If we do that, we should have a great chance at taking home the W.”
