In the past seven years, the Fresno Christian Learning Resource Center (LRC) has helped many students who are struggling in school. The LRC is available before, during and after school depending on the student’s schedule.
“As a 5th grade teacher I was frustrated because I had students who were struggling and I was unable to effectively meet their need,” Debbie Siebert, LRC director, said. “When Mrs. [Pat] Unruh told the elementary staff about the Discovery Program I researched it further and, after much prayer, God showed me a way to begin the program here during my lunch hour and study hall period.”
According to Siebert, she juggled teaching 5th grade and running the Discovery Program for four years. Eventually campus administration gave Siebert the opportunity to lead the Discovery Center full time. In the six years the LRC has been in operation, it has grown to include six teachers and 25 students.
“Student tutors are very energetic and willing to help,” Jordan Griffin,’04, said. “Working with John Howard [’03] has helped me greatly improve my chemistry grade and my parents are pleased. I have had fun and appreciate his help.”
The LRC recently received a seven-year accreditation, the highest possible.
“The value of accreditation gives you credibility in the market place,” Siebert said.” It instills confidence in the clients that the services their children are being provided with meet the highest standards.”
