Eagles win 9-3 over rival, March 13
Travelling to Lemoore Friday, the Fresno Christian baseball team was set to play the Crusaders of Kings Christian. The two schools had a bit of history between their football programs, being in the two previous 8-man championship football game, and much of that emotion was set to be shown on the diamond that afternoon.
Throwing their ace, the Crusaders were able to keep the eagles bats at check early in the game, leading to a scoreless top half of the inning. In the field, Senior Dillon Owens took the ball for the Eagles, and pitched a scoreless few innings. After scoring one run in the second, the Eagles’ offense exploded in the third for four runs during a two-out rally, and quickly jumped out to a five run lead. Kings was able to close the margin, bringing in one in the bottom of the inning, but struggled to bring in runs for the remainder of the game.
The Eagles picked up one more in the fourth, and three more in the top of fifth, increasing their lead. Meanwhile, Kings was able to bring in one more in the bottom of the sixth, which would be the last time they would see Owens. In the seventh Taylor Howard came in to relive Owens and struggled early on. Freshman Roman Endicott came in with one out and the bases loaded to try to put the game away. After striking out the first batter and forcing a ground ball for the next, the Eagles got out of the jam and came away with the 9-3 victory.
Tyler Sellers, ’16, was very excited about the outcome of the game and was really encouraged by how everyone played.
“The game was great,” Sellers said. “It showed us we were able to compete with and beat one of the better teams in our division. The guys played well and played hard until the end. we faced a good picture and proved to ourselves we cam hit off the best teams have to offer. Overall I’m very excited for what the rest of the season holds.”
The Eagles are now 6-1 and are currently on a five game winning streak. The Eagles next game will be on Tuesday, March 17 as the team travels to Mendota High School.
